We certainly have asked questions of Jesus in our prayers and devotional times. But what about those time when Jesus asks a question of us? Pastor Eshbach will focus his preaching during the Wednesdays of Lent on five of those questions. They are:

March 12: “Why Were You Searching for Me?” – Luke 2:41-51

March 19: “Who do You Say That I Am?” – Matthew 16:13-20

March 26: “Why is My Language Not Clear to You?” – John 8:39-47

April 2: “What Do You Want Me to Do For You?” – Mark 10:35-40

April 9: “Does This Offend You” – John 6:52-63

The Quilting Team

March 18 we will be meeting at the church…come join us!

Social Ministry and Lutheran World Relief Quilt Teams Meet “God’s Work, Our Hands”

On March 18 at 6:00 p.m. the Social Ministry Team will meet in the Pastor’s office and the Quilting Team will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Spirit Center to work on quilts.  Our quilting group is off to a great start, having already completed one quilt.  Your hands are needed to help put these quilts together.  The quilts are made from 11” x 11” squares and are machine sewn.  Cutting the squares while others are sewing is a big help going forward with our goal of completing 5 to 6 quilts this year!  The quilts are part of the fall LWR “in-gathering” and will give needed warmth to those in need around the world.

I hope you are anxious to lend a hand with one or both of these ministries.  The work we do expresses our love and desire to do “God’s Work” All are invited to attend one or both of these meetings.  If you need more information please contact the church office!

Quilting Together

A new small group interested in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief is starting up.

A new small group interested in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief has been created and is getting organized. In order to begin we would like to ask your help to collect:

  • Left over fabric
  • Old bedspreads, blankets
  • Sheets
  • Curtains
  • Coupons for Joann Fabrics (to purchase batting)

There will be a box in the narthex for any contributions- marked “Quilts”

Anyone who is interested is invited to join us. Our next meeting is Monday January 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the church. You do not need to know how to quilt to help out. There are opportunities for people to cut squares to be sewn together, or to help know a completed quilt. Training is provided! Please see Donna Null, Dee Mumma, Norma Good or Barb Widdall for further information.

From the Pastor

February 2014

A short time ago, in a recent sermon, I got onto the theme of our Christian identity. More than once I used the phrase “who are you?”

Now when I do this, a certain song gets stuck in my head and I find myself singing “who are you” to myself for the rest of the day. On a day when I asked you to consider your Christian identity, it’s also a good idea that I spend some time doing the same thing. And the song stays with me while I think about that.

Now as we turn the corner from January into February our meditation will change from who to how. How are we to live out that identity, given to us at baptism?  Helping us this month will be the words of Jesus from Matthew’s version of the Sermon on the Mount.

For three of the four weeks of February we will hear that we can keep God’s commandments, do good things for people, go beyond the expectations of conventional charity, and to respond to evil with love and forgiveness. All of these ideas come to us from our Lord.

A long Epiphany season is helpful for us to dig deeper into how we will live out our calling as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Through our worship, and a lot of time spent in prayer, we can be prepared for our life of service, sharing Jesus’ love in word and deed. And it will help prepare us for the next season, Lent. More on that next month.

Clifton D. Eshbach,

Pastor
